What Are Nitrogen Oxides?
Nitrogen oxides (NOx) are a combination of highly reactive gases.
Nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and nitric oxide (NO) are produced when fuel is burned at high temperatures.

Where Does It Come From?
-- Motor vehicle exhaust, electric utilities, and industrial boilers can emit large amounts of NOx.

How Can Nitrogen Oxides Affect Health and the Environment?
-- High levels of nitrogen oxides can lead to smog and acid rain.

-- It can cause respiratory infections, lung irritation, bronchitis, or pneumonia.

-- Excessive levels of nitrogen oxides can decrease the strength of textiles, discolor fabrics, and corrode metal surfaces.
